News - Co-operative Party welcomes Network Rail Review

The Co-operative Party has welcomed Network Rail’s review of its governance structure and in particular the consultation taking place at www.networkrailreview.org.uk.

The Party has used the review to reaffirm its position: the current structures are inadequate and lack accountability; that the Members’ Council must have greater power to hire and fire members of the Board, set long-term strategy and the remuneration policy; and that a consumer mutual, whereby rail users and taxpayers can become public members of Network Rail and elect the Members’ Council, would improve the chain of accountability.

The Party’s full response to the detailed survey is available as a PDF here.
